A two-year $262,000 grant was recently awarded from the National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program to co-PIs Tim Harms (Mathematics) and Alison Wallace (Biosciences). Senior personnel include: Linda Houts-Smith (Languages and Cultures), Richard Lahti (Chemistry; Physics and Astronomy), Steve Lindaas (Physics and Astronomy), and Teresa Shume (School of Teaching and Learning).
The MSUM Mathematics Department hosted the Fall 2011 meeting of the North Central Section of the Mathematical Association of America October 28-29. Over 50 college and university faculty and students attended the meeting, which consisted primarily of presentations.

Wally Sizer, Mathematics, had a paper, “Numerals in History,” published in the Proceedings of the Twelfth Midwest History of Mathematics Conference.
Adam Goyt, Mathematics, had the paper “Avoiding Colored Partitions of Lengths Two and Three” accepted for publication in the Permutation Patterns 2010 Proceedings edition of the journal Pure Mathematics and Applications. This is joint work with Lara K. Pudwell (Valparaiso University).
