Report shows regional students have similar debt

A national survey says South Dakota is tops in the nation among college students graduating in debt, but 17th overall for the amount of that debt. In its survey “Student Debt and the Class of 2008,” the Berkley, Calif.-based Project on Student Debt, reports that national student debt rose an average of 6 percent a year between 2004 and 2008, from $18,600 in 2004 to $23,200 in 2008. Important message for Minnesota residents

Students graduating from high school after January 1, 2009 and are Minnesota residents have until September 23, 2009 to apply for the Minnesota Achieve Scholarship. Eligible students who enroll full time (15 credits) at a university in Minnesota during the academic year immediately following their high school graduation can receive a one-time scholarship for use in their first academic year ranging from $1,200 to approximately $4,000 depending on financial need.
