Report shows regional students have similar debt

MITCHELL, S.D. – A national survey says South Dakota is tops in the nation among college students graduating in debt, but 17th overall for the amount of that debt.

In its survey “Student Debt and the Class of 2008,” the Berkley, Calif.-based Project on Student Debt, reports that national student debt rose an average of 6 percent a year between 2004 and 2008, from $18,600 in 2004 to $23,200 in 2008.
