Accessibility Tip: Font Size & Typeface Matter

An accessible font means using a typeface designed for easy reading by a diverse audience, including individuals with visual impairments such as low vision or reading disability such as dyslexia. Accessible typography ensures that textual information is accessible to all users, irrespective of their abilities or disabilities.

Font Size:
When creating documents, like Microsoft Word, use a standard font size 11 or 12 pt, or 15 to 16 px.

  • Users should have control over “zoom” and must be able to resize the text at least to 200% without the loss of content functionality.

Font Typeface:
Use a sans serif font (e.g., Arial, Verdana, Aptos, Calibri). The free version of the MSUM branded sans serif font is Source Sans.

  • AVOID decorative or stylized fonts that can reduce legibility.
