Development opportunities through Quality Matters

Explore professional development opportunities covering a wide array of content available throughout the year via Quality Matters. Registration fees for these professional development opportunities will be paid for by the Office of Online Learning (OL). Faculty may register for one online session at a time and provide proof of successful completion prior to registering for additional sessions paid for by OL. Email onlinelearning@mnstate.edu indicating your topic(s) of interest and we will help create a customized plan for you.

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR): A two week, asynchronous online workshop starting February 18th or May 19th developing your knowledge, skills, and abilities with foundational concepts of Quality Matters. Additional dates available.

Connecting Learning Objectives and Assessments: Feb. 13-27 or May 14-28, 2020; This workshop reviews course- and module-level learning objectives or competencies while using alignment to ensure that assessments are varied and supportive of the learning objectives or competencies. Participants apply these concepts to developing and/or reviewing their own course objectives or competencies and assessments. The content is based on Standards 2 and 3 of the Quality Matters Rubric and is best after completing Applying the Quality Matters Rubric. 2 weeks, online, facilitated, asynchronous.

Improving Your Online Course (IYOC): A two week, asynchronous online workshop starting March 24th working on an online course and applying foundational concepts of Quality Matters. Additional dates available.

Teaching Online: An Introduction to Delivery: Feb. 20-Mar. 5, Mar. 26-Apr. 9, Apr. 9-23, May 7-21, May 21-Jun. 4, or Jun. 11-25, 2020; An Introduction to Online Delivery (TOL): Examine the differences between traditional classroom and online learning; the instructor’s role in the online classroom; the importance of engaging students, and keeping them engaged; and the various methods of facilitating online discussions using the discussion board. 2 weeks, online, facilitated, asynchronous.

Creating Presence in Your Online Course: Jan. 29-Feb. 12, Feb. 19-Mar. 4, Mar. 11-25, Apr. 1-15, Apr.22-May 6, May 13-27, Jun. 3-17, or Jun. 24-Jul. 8, 2020; Participants in this two-week workshop will learn how to create three types of presence in online courses: instructor, social, and cognitive. 2 weeks, online, facilitated, asynchronous.

Orienting Your Online Learners: Feb. 19-26, Mar. 11-18, Apr. 1-8, Apr. 22-29, May 13-30, Jun. 3-10, or Jun. 24-Jul. 1, 2020; Participants in this one-week workshop will learn why and how to orient learners to online learning in general as well as to a particular online course. 1 week, online, facilitated, asynchronous.
