Expanding Your Horizons seeks volunteers
Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that promotes MSUM and also connects with young women in science and mathematics?
Expanding Your Horizons, which is a conference for young women in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, is again coming to MSUM’s campus on Saturday, April 8, 2017. This conference has the goals of: increasing young women’s interest in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; fostering awareness of career opportunities in related fields, providing students an opportunity to meet and form personal contacts with women working in traditionally male occupations, and alleviating isolation of young women interested in science and mathematics. Several faculty from MSUM are teaching these workshops.
The students participating in MSUM’s portions of the workshops will be on our campus from 1-3:30 p.m.
We are seeking student or employee volunteers who are interested in helping these young students find the workshops they have selected on our campus and being able to walk with them to the workshops and also to help guide them back to their buses at the appropriate time.
If there is a student club or organization that is interested in taking this on as a project, that’s GREAT. But individuals are also welcome.
We are looking for seven volunteers to help us out that afternoon.
If you are interested in helping out, please email Brittney Goodman at brittney.goodman@mnstate.edu with the following information:
- If you are an organization, please include that information and number of members you can provide
- Your name
- Whether you’re a student, faculty, or staff member
- Your department or major or organization
- Your availability from 12:30 until 3:30 p.m. (12:30 for a group meeting and building/task assignments)
Preference will be given to those that can help out most or all of the afternoon.
A certificate of participation will be given to you for your volunteer records.
