SAC volunteers

Posted on March 31, 2017

I would like to thank the MSU Moorhead community for its wonderful response to my request from yesterday morning to resubmit the Student Academic Conference volunteer form. At last count we have 34 forms.

As I explained in the official email sent by Sherry Estrem, we discovered that the SAC page was not processing volunteer form submissions. IT identified the problem and repaired it quickly—I would like to thank IT for their prompt work.

We still need a few more volunteers, so if you have not resubmitted your form or have not volunteered yet, please do so. Volunteer assignments will be made as soon as possible, but no earlier than Wednesday, April 5.

Again, thank you; it is heartwarming to work in such a caring community where faculty, staff, and administrators strive to serve our students.

MSUM students volunteer in VITA Program

Posted on March 24, 2017

MSUM students gave back to their communities in a big way this semester, by serving as volunteers in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. Nineteen MSUM students volunteered a combined total of 415 hours during the tax filing season that ended April 18. They helped low-to-moderate income families who needed assistance preparing their 2016 tax returns by serving at local VITA sites (the Lakes & Prairies Community Action Partnership in Moorhead, and the Southeastern North Dakota Community Action Agency in Fargo).

As committed VITA volunteers, our students first received training and passed certification tests, then began providing free tax help. What a great way to serve their communities, while at the same time getting relevant, real-world experience on their resumes.

Kim Mollberg, who teaches the tax courses in the Paseka School of Business, received several positive comments, like “want to convey how impressed I was…handled with professionalism…strong work ethic…driven and committed to our program.”

Interested in becoming a VITA volunteer?  Contact Kim Mollberg in the Paseka School of Business.
