KTYD, the Japanese Dance group on campus, performed at Langern Lighting Festival

KTYD, the Japanese dance group on campus, performed at the Como Park and Conservatory’s Lantern Lighting Festival Aug. 23, 2015. It was also the 60th Anniversary of the sisterhood between Saint Paul and Nagasaki with five dignitaries and the mayor of St. Paul present.

“I’m very proud of my group,” Desiree Miller, the president of KTYD said. “It was an amazing experience for our team and a wonderful crowd to perform for. The members are very dedicated and worked above and beyond what we have ever done in order to make sure that we were prepared for this event. Our members pushed the limit, and we managed to learn four dances this year and reviewed one that we had done in a previous year.”

k1This was the group’s first performance away from Moorhead. “There were a few hiccups that we had to work through, but the event was as spectacular as it was humbling. To see so many groups come from all over put on both the Lantern Lighting festival and to celebrate the 60th anniversary sisterhood between St. Paul and Nagasaki was breathtaking. I honestly feel very lucky to be a part of such a supportive and determined student organization and even more honored that I was asked to teach them and be their president.”

KTYD meets every Monday night in the CMU Underground from 8 p.m.-10 p.m.
