Public views findings of MSUM’s archaeological dig at Buffalo River State Park

Near Glyndon, MN (WDAY/WDAZ TV) – Details of the areas history is being dug up, literally.

MSUM Professor George Holley is leading a project that has uncovered bones and tools believed to be more than 8,000 years old. There are more than 700 sites that have been looked at around Buffalo State Park.

On Sunday, as part of Minnesota Archaeology Week, some were able to see the sites firsthand. People went on tours of MSUM’s Regional Science Center and explored the area where many of the recent discoveries were made.

George Holley/MSUM Professor of Anthropology, “It goes back to about 8,000 years ago and is probably until 1600 or somewhere like that. So we have thousands and thousands of years of people lingering here to hunt bison, to process bison and probably people who were living year round here as well.”

Professor Holley says it will take at least six months to a year to finish his work on this project.
