Pulse Mentorship Program

Students and staff from SPECTRUM and the Rainbow Dragon Center are excited to announce a new mentorship program to support LGBTQ+ college students in the Fargo-Moorhead community. The Pulse Mentorship Program is a LGBTQ+ mentorship program that matches LGBTQ+ students with LGBTQ+ or ally mentors from the Fargo-Moorhead community. This program seeks to create a safe space for students to be themselves and explore their identity, provide resources and guidance, engage in open dialogues and discussion, assist in navigating workplace or school environments, help develop goals for their future plans, connect students to the larger LGBTQ+ community, and offer support.  Read the rest of this entry →

Join the Dragon Leadership Program

Join the Dragon Leadership Program! The Dragon Leadership Program (DLP) is a free, campus wide co-curricular program designed to develop leadership skills and prepare you for your professional career. Visit www.mnstate.edu/osa/dragon-leadership for a list of requirements. You must be graduating Spring 2019 or later to participate in this two-year program. Students that complete the requirements get a medal that can be worn at graduation. Learn more about the DLP at our upcoming information session on Monday, Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. in CMU 214. Applications are due September 29.

Fat Girls Hiking Body Love Workshop, Group Hike to Maplewood State Park

Do you need some body positive messaging in your life? Do you love being out in nature? Fat Girls Hiking co-founder Summer Michaud-Skog is coming to campus for two events:

  • Body Love Workshop (Thursday, Sept. 28, 3-4 p.m., Women’s Center) – focuses on joyful movement, self-care, the body love spectrum and our connection with nature and ourselves. Open to students of all body types and gender identities.
  • Group Hike at Maplewood State ParkMN (Friday, Sept. 29, 2-7 p.m.) – travel with Summer and continue the discussion about body positivity in this beautiful natural setting during fall’s peak. Transportation and snacks provided. Depart from CMU parking lot at 2 p.m. Open to students of all body types and gender identities. Hike is limited to 20 participants. Registration required. This year, we celebrate the 45th anniversary of Title IX, which guarantees every student the right to an education free from discrimination based on sex. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience intimate partner abuse, sexual violence, or stalking  in their lifetime. Clothesline Project on display

The Clothesline Project will be on display throughout weekdays beginning Tuesday, Sept. 12 through Friday Sept. 22 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Great White Hall. Survivors of gender-based violence and their loved ones emblazon T-shirts with their stories, direct messages to their abusers, and sometimes strong imagery and leave them on display. These shirts document the prevalence of gender-based violence, aid in the healing process of survivors, and celebrate their strength and courage, often sending a message of hope to others who remain silent about their experiences.  Read the rest of this entry →

Volunteer with KMSC Dragon Radio at the Dorothy Day Food Pantry on Monday, Sept. 18. If this is your first time volunteering there please show up a little after 6 p.m. to be trained in. If you have volunteered there before you can show up at 6:30 p.m. KMSC volunteers at the pantry every third Monday of the month. You do not have to be a part of KMSC to volunteer with us. We will meet at the food pantry.

Delta Zeta is putting on a pretty sweet event! Donuts will be sold in the MSUM campus mall on Friday, Sept. 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. There will be lots of puppies around to pet and play with as well! All of the proceeds will go to 4 Luv of Dog Rescue in Fargo. So grab a friend and come on over, we will be very happy to see you!

Student Organization Hosts Plastic Bag Recycling Competition

MSUM’s Sustainable Students Association (SSA) will be hosting a plastic bag recycling competition on campus beginning Sept. 18. They will be collecting plastic bags for six months, with a goal of collecting 500 pounds—or approximately 40,500 plastic bags.

If MSUM reaches its goal, the university will receive a free bench made of recycled plastic, in addition to helping save the environment!
