Alpha Lambda Delta inducts first-year students

Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society for first-year students, held its MSUM initiation Sunday, April 11 at 1 p.m. in the CMU. Twenty-nine new members were initiated. Freshmen initiates must have earned a 3.5 GPA fall semester and be in the top 20% of the freshman class. The initiation was hosted by last year’s ALD president and vice-president, Whitney Nelson and Nicole Kahler, and ALD Advisor Janet Haak. Walseth, Malott & Borchers present at international convention

Teri Walseth, Dean of Education and Human Services, Michelle Malott, Dean of Social and Natural Sciences, and Tim Borchers, Interim Dean of Arts and Humanities, each presented papers at the Chair Academy International Convention last week in Bloomington. Hosted by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, the conference provided programs and keynote speakers that addressed the needs of leaders in higher education.

Communication Studies Research Published

Dr. Theresa Hest, Communication Studies, is co-author of “Weather-Talk, Cynicism and Agriculture” in the current issue of Qualitative Research Reports in Communication. This study explores how farmers talk about nature by discussing the results of ethnographic interviews conducted with farmers. Dr. Tim Borchers, Interim Dean of Arts and Humanities, is the co-author of another article in the same publication, “Communities of Cornhuskers: The Generation of Place through Sports Fans’ Rituals.” Click headline to read more.
