Diversity Week events begin today

Diversity Week is Tuesday, April 22 to Saturday, April 26. Events: Tuesday- CMU 205 6 p.m.- World War I and its impact on Diversity. Lecture by Dr. Margaret Sankey from the Political Science Department. Wednesday- movie Showing “The Color Purple” CMU Underground 6 p.m. Free admission, free snacks!

2010 Diversity Week Events

On Tuesday, April 13, Cristie Jacobsen, Fargo Police Department Cultural Liaison Officer, delivers a lecture on interacting with Fargo-Moorhead’s diverse community at 3 p.m. in the CMU 227. Panelists will discuss interracial adoption Tuesday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. in CMU 205. After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, individuals attempted to put unclaimed children up for adoption. Were these individuals helping orphans or ignoring a culture’s dignity? Panelists from the community will provide intriguing discussions about these issues. The MSUM Student Senate has numerous events planned for the 2010 Diversity Week, including keynote speaker TJ Leyden, who will talk on “Turning from Hate” Wednesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in the CMU Ballroom. After 15 years as a neo-Nazi white supremacist activist and recruiter, Tom “TJ” Leyden experienced a profound change of heart, turned away from hate and began teaching tolerance.
