Lavender reception April 18

A Lavender reception recognizing all local LGBTQ college students and their campus Allies and Advocates will be held Sunday, April 18 at 6 p.m. at the ECCE Gallery, 216 Broadway, Fargo. Those LGBTQ graduate and undergraduate students completing their college careers will be honored as Lavender Graduates at the reception, but all LGBTQ students and allies are welcome. This is a quad college event (NDSU, Concordia, and MCTC will also participate.)

Philosophy majors to present at Minnesota conference

Three Philosophy majors submitted papers and were accepted to present at the 2010 Minnesota Philosophical Undergraduate Student Conference at Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minn., on April 17. The students are Tatiana Gracyk (“The Ethics of Physician-Assisted Suicide”), Daniel Grosz (“Coercion and the Argument from Hiddenness”), and Jennifer Jaszczak (“A Consideration of the Oppression of Women”). There were over 40 submissions, and 31 will be presented with 17 schools being represented at the conference.

Alpha Lambda Delta inducts first-year students

Alpha Lambda Delta, the national honor society for first-year students, held its MSUM initiation Sunday, April 11 at 1 p.m. in the CMU. Twenty-nine new members were initiated. Freshmen initiates must have earned a 3.5 GPA fall semester and be in the top 20% of the freshman class. The initiation was hosted by last year’s ALD president and vice-president, Whitney Nelson and Nicole Kahler, and ALD Advisor Janet Haak. Dr. Timothy Borchers, Dean of Arts and Humanities, was the guest speaker. Click headline to see who the new inductees are.
