Planetarium hosts 400+ at Stars of PBS event

On Saturday, Feb. 4 the MSUM Planetarium partnered with Prairie Public and sponsored by Moore Engineering to bring the 3rd Annual Stars of PBS to campus. The event featured the planetarium show, “One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure,” showing every 45 minutes throughout the day and activities ranging from playing with light and shadows, creating mini-planetariums, boom whackers, dippin dots, trips to the moon, and others.

More than 400 people attended the event and even got to meet Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat. It was a great day had by all and it was all free thanks to the generous sponsorship of Moore Engineering. Check out the MSUM Planetarium Facebook page for photos from the event.

Pacheco’s ‘Flatland’ photographs on display in MSUM Planetarium

Assistant Professor of Photography Carlos Rene Pacheco has photographs from his in-progress body of work titled Flatland on display now in the Planetarium on campus.

Inspired by the near unbroken flatness of rural Minnesota and North Dakota along a horizontal plane, Flatland is a series of photographs, evoking alien landscapes, that explores the textures and space of the Midwest, from above and below, along the vertical z-axis.  Read the rest of this entry →

Planetarium Event: The Warped Universe

Friday, Oct. 28 | 7:30 p.m. | Planetarium (Bridges Hall 167)

Some of the most violent events in the universe spectacularly warp space-time, emitting gravitational waves. MIT professor Dr. Nergis Mavalvala will describe the 100 year search for these tiny ripples in space-time and what they can tell us about cosmic events that may be shrouded in darkness and date as far back in time as the earliest moments after the Big Bang.

Sara Schultz Represents MSUM at Annual Planetarium Conference

Physics Students Present at Planetarium Conference

For the first time, MSUM students presented at the Great Lakes Planetarium Society held in Flint, Mich., last week. Planetarium Hosts First Ever Wedding Under the Stars

On Saturday, Sept. 17, the MSUM Planetarium hosted the first ever wedding under the stars. While the Planetarium is no stranger to special events, this was the first of its kind. The dome was resplendent with a night sky full of stars. Also featured were two particular constellations favored by the bride and groom. The recent technology upgrades made this event especially magical. Congratulations to the bride and groom!

LaserFest 2016 continues this weekend

Come rock out to the pulsing beats and dazzling laser lights during the 3rd annual LaserFest.  There is a little bit of everything; a show for everyone — from Black History Tribute, Laser Beatles and Summer Laser Jam to American Pride, Laser Safari, Lasers in Space,
Laser Pink Floyd, and much more!

Come to the planetarium on Monday, February 29, to check out the special LaserFest show, Black History Tribute. This is an open house event, come and go as you please.  Shows will be at 10 am, noon, and 2 pm.  The shows are open to MSUM Students, Faculty & Staff only.  All three shows are FREE!

Back for the THIRD year, LaserFest 2016 is sure to ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF!

From February 25 – 29, come rock out under the dome in an experience like none other in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Treat your senses to pulsing beats, incredible imagery and dazzling laser light effects. Featuring music from over five decades, hearts, eyes and ears will enjoy the beautiful colors and laser art set to a collection of musical delights in an immersive visual environment. From Rock to Pop, Metal to Alternative there is sure to be something for the whole family.
