Living Will/Health Care Directive

A Health Care Directive is the document that directs your medical treatment when you can’t speak for yourself. The Elder Law class (Para 416) has, as part of an academic service-learning project, drafted health care directives for area residents for the last five years. Recent death

Jean K. Parks, 69, mother of Michael Parks, MSUM’s Director of Security, died Thursday in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A memorial gathering for Jean will be on Monday, April 12, from noon to 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., in Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, Fargo.

Travis Dolence receives MERLOT award

Congratulations to the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, and also to Travis Dolence, MSUM’s Distance Learning Librarian, for being recognized by MERLOT (the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) with a “MERLOT Outstanding Partner Award” for significant contributions and support to academic technologies and educational leadership. This award is reserved for partner institutions with a five-year history as a MERLOT Higher Education Partner or Affiliate. Dolence is on the Editorial Board for MERLOT’s Library and Information Services division. He’ll be attending the Sloan Consortium/MERLOT/MoodleMoot symposium, “Emerging Technologies for Online Learning,” July 20-23, 2010, in San Jose, Calif. MnSCU will be recognized during a special ceremony at the conference for its work with MERLOT.

Scholastic Bookfair April 12-16

The MSUM Early Education Center is hosting a Scholastic bookfair, April 12-16 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. each day! Come check out the books and our new center in Lommen, look for Lacey in Lommen 84 or call 477-2214 for more details. Come buy books for your kids, grandchildren, or build your teacher library. The books are all cash and carry—please bring cash or check to make your payments. A portion of the proceeds will go back to center to purchase more books for the children here.
