MSUM senior receives scholarship to PRSSA ICON 2023

MSUM senior and Pelican Rapids, Minn., native Katlyn Haugrud has received a scholarship to attend the PRSSA ICON 2023 international conference Oct. 12-17 in Nashville, Tenn. Katlyn, the daughter of Bonnie Haugrud and the late Keith Haugrud, is an integrated advertising and public relations major and the president of MSUM’s Michelle (Foulk) Olson, APR, Chapter of PRSSA. Olson is a managing partner, Aerospace/Defense and Advanced Air Mobility at Lambert and a 1985 MSUM mass communications graduate.

Katlyn, who expects to graduate in May 2024, was one of only five students in the country to receive this prestigious honor. The competitive scholarship was awarded based on her writing skills and recommendation letter.

“I have had the pleasure of watching Ms. Haugrud grow into a thoughtful leader,” wrote Dr. Kay Beckermann, Katlyn’s professor and advisor. “This was demonstrated last fall as she helped organize a Take Back the Night event, in which PRSSA was a co-host. She understood the complexity of the issue and was thoughtful with the planning to ensure a safe event for all involved. As the president for the Michelle (Foulk) Olson, APR, Chapter of PRSSA, she is planning unique recruitment ideas for fall semester, such as partnering with other organizations for greater impact at campus events.”

PRSSA ICON 2023 is the premier public relations/communications conference uniting students and professionals from around the world for professional development and networking. Attendees will hear from industry professionals about their experience and best practices, attend general sessions at the PRSA International Conference, and participate in PRSA networking events.
