Underrepresented Horizon middle schoolers participate in summer program at MSUM

About 25 underrepresented 7th and 8th grade youth from Horizon Middle School will participate in a summer youth program at MSUM focusing on academic skill building, leadership development, and living skills. The program runs for six weeks beginning June 12, excluding the week of July 3-6.

Students will meet in Lommen Hall to participate in sessions on goal setting, leadership, reading and writing, STEM exploration, nutrition and healthy cooking, and physical activities in the Wellness Center.

Through this partnership, MSUM hopes to foster stronger relationships with Moorhead Public Schools, increase our connections with local diverse non-profits, and create new paths for students to connect with MSUM.

Additional project partners include Cultural Diversity Resources and its Multicultural Alliance, P’s & Q’s Etiquette, Women’s Initiative Network, New American Development Agency, Indigenous Legacy, Baraza La Afrika, Moorhead Public Library, University of Minnesota extension SNAP and 4H Program, and Moorhead Public Schools.
