Art and Beauty of Catalan Numbers topic of math seminar

Assistant Math Professor Sara Solhjem will speak about “The Art and Beauty of Catalan Numbers” in this week’s Math Seminar, which meets Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Bridges 268. The abstract is below.
There are over 200 known objects that are counted by the Catalan Number and all of them are connect. We will explore the calculation of the Catalan Number, see various Catalan objects and learn how it is possible to move from one to the next. This is bound to be a fun and interactive talk which will be accessible to anyone willing to learn something new and play a little.
