Three services every student should consider using
MSUM provides several services that can help you succeed in your academics and life outside of college. Here are three that you should definitely utilize throughout your time at MSUM!
Career Development Center
Finding your dream job or the right major can be tough. The Career Development Center (CDC) has many services in itself that can help you explore what you want to do. The staff provides career and major exploration tools that can help you make the choice that’s right for you. If you already know what you want to do, great! The CDC offers resume and cover letter reviews, mock interviews and social media account reviews. Did you know the majority of employers look at your social media account? Just over 90 percent, actually. The CDC can help you improve and prepare you for your specific career field.
If you are looking for a job on- or off-campus, check out Dragon Jobs powered by Handshake. You are able to find jobs, ranging from internship to full-time. Applying is extremely easy when you just have a few buttons to push. You can find and apply for jobs online or use the Handshake app on your smartphone.
Make an appointment with the CDC to best prepare you for academic and career success by calling, emailing or scheduling through the Handshake app!
Academic Support Center
The Academic Support Center is extremely helpful. If you are looking to get a little extra help in a tough class, the Academic Support Center is the place to go to find tutors in several subjects. Scheduling a tutor is super easy! Fill out a request form online.
Sometimes it is hard getting into the class you need to take for your major or to graduate. If you are not able to get into an English or math class, you can take an Accuplacer test that will place you in a correct level course. You can find resources and sample questions for the Accuplacer on the Academic Support Center webpage. If you need or would like to take the Accuplacer, stop in or call the Academic Support Center to schedule a time for your test!
University Writing Support Center
The peer-tutors in the University Writing Support Center will provide useful tips on how to improve your writing skills. Even though the tutors are not able to proofread papers, they can sit down with you for 50 minutes to provide valuable feedback. Just like all student services on campus, this one is easy to schedule. You can stop into the University Writing Support Center or sign up for a session online!
