Print materials updated to reflect Minnesota State rebrand

Minnesota State recently released its updated brand identity manual to reflect changes made during the rebrand from MnSCU to Minnesota State late last year.

Minnesota State University Moorhead is updating its print materials to reflect the change. The new branding will be implemented when supplies are reordered, after the current supply of business cards, stationary, brochures and other print materials are exhausted.

Moorhead Magazine looking for entrepreneurship-related story ideas

The marketing team is working on the next issue of the Moorhead Magazine, which will feature the theme of innovation and entrepreneurship. It can include alumni and students from all majors.  We are looking for story ideas for the following:

  • Alumni who quit the work grind to start their own companies
  • Alumni start ups
  • Psychological profile of an entrepreneur
  • Failures – alumni who’ve failed (many times) and gone on to success
  • Grit and heart
  • Student entrepreneurs and/or alumni who started their businesses while in college
  • Dragon Consulting – companies with alumni who’ve used Dragon Consulting and benefits, etc.
  • Any other suggestions you might have

MSUM Marketing & Communications wins ADDY Awards

The MSUM Marketing Team earned several awards at Friday night’s American Advertising Federation’s (AAF-ND) ADDY Awards. The annual ADDY Awards program honors excellence in advertising and cultivates the highest creative standards. It is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry. Each year, AdFed members from around the country enter more than 60,000 samples of their best work, making the ADDYs the world’s largest advertising competition.  Read the rest of this entry →

Communicators Council meets today

Communicators Council will meet today, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. in CMU 208. If you’re interested in social media and other promotion activities, feel free to join us. Scheduled topics: website update, university advancement and life transformed.

Communicators Council is a group of individuals who, to some extent, engage in communications activities on behalf of MSUM or an MSUM unit/department, particularly though not exclusively social media content providers. The group serves in an advisory capacity to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications and has no authority of its own. Membership is voluntary.

GO! Team Wins ‘Best of’ Awards

The National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) has honored the MSUM Dragon Athletics GO! TEAM with three “Best of Awards” for 2015-16.

Phase 2 of Web Redesign Update

At yesterday’s town hall meeting, Dave Wahlberg, Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, shared information on the second phase of redesign of the university’s website. Phase 1 consisted of a redesign of the homepage and graduate and undergraduate pages. Those pages launched July 28. In Phase 2, academic and administrative pages will be brought into the new design. Phase 3 will consist of developing a portal for information for current students, faculty and staff.

A Phase 2 steering team has been created to guide high-level decision-making. Members are Dave Wahlberg and Dan Heckaman (co-conveners), Joshua Behl, Kirsti Fleming, Alexandria Fogarty, Lisa Karch, Derek Lien, Kristi Monson, Doug Peters, Ryan Peterson, Terry Peterson, Rebecca Rudel, Amanda Stegmaier and Julia Zaloudek.

Three principles are guiding redesign: 1) support enrollment growth, 2) optimize for viewing on mobile devices, and 3) use internal staff rather than an outside firm.  Read the rest of this entry →

Aerial Photos to be Taken on Campus Monday, Aug. 22

The Marketing and Communications Office has contracted with Sly Dog Productions, a company licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration, to conduct low level campus photography. The company will operate an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to take high definition video and still photography on Monday, Aug. 22  with Tuesday as a weather back up date.  

The UAV will make low level flyovers of campus buildings and landmarks, such as the main gate and Sown, starting at 6:30 a.m. and continuing throughout the day at various locations. The images will be used in promotional opportunities and available for other campus purposes.

Redesigned website to launch July 28

The following information was shared at Wednesday’s town hall presentation on the web redesign project. The first phase of the redesign effort includes the homepage, undergraduate and graduate admissions pages. Work teams have focused on developing the site to be responsive on desktop and mobile devices and enrollment focused for prospective students. Marketing team earns Silver Addy awards

The MSUM Marketing team earned two awards at the annual ADDY Awards program Feb. 26. The awards program honors excellence in advertising and cultivates the highest creative standards. The team received silver awards in the category of Collateral Material: Magazine Design for the Moorhead Magazine Fall 2015 and in the category Still Photography: Digitally Enhanced, Single for the Bakken Imports Photo done for Moorhead Magazine Spring 2015.

The magazine team includes Kristi Monson, Derek Lien, Meghan Feir, Katie Faken, David Arntson and Jennifer Donahue. It was former photographer Ande Sailer’s photo that won the award for the Bakken Imports Photo. Dave Wahlberg is executive editor.
