Community Listening Session

Thursday, April 12 | 4-6 p.m. | CMU Ballroom

In recognition and support of April being proclaimed as Sexual Violence Prevention Month by Gov. Mark Dayton, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE) has scheduled a Community Listening Session at Minnesota State University Moorhead for Thursday, April 12 from 4-6 p.m.

The listening session will be led by Melissa Kwon, OHE’s Campus Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Coordinator. Kwon was recently hired to support sexual violence prevention and response efforts on Minnesota college campuses. She is scheduling similar events at college campuses across the state in the coming weeks.

“These Community Listening Sessions will provide an opportunity to learn what efforts are currently underway to make college campuses safer, as well as what resources would help support schools and students.” said Kwon. “I hope these discussions will help us strengthen both our prevention and awareness efforts across the state.”

In 2015, Governor Dayton and the Minnesota Legislature enacted new requirements for college campuses to provide sexual assault training to students and staff, as well as enhance cooperation efforts between institutions and local law enforcement. Attendees at the listening session will be welcomed with a video from Senator Tina Smith, who was Lt. Governor when the legislation was enacted.

In recognition of Sexual Violence Prevention Month, Kwon developed and released a tool kit of prevention resources available to every college campus in the state.
