United Blood Services is the community blood provider for the Fargo-Moorhead and surrounding area. The blood products collected by UBS from volunteer donors is used to treat the many local patients needing blood transfusions. UBS needs 250 blood donors every day to meet the ongoing needs of the nearly 70 hospitals we serve in the region.
Many of us are left troubled by the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas. Aside from the 50 lives lost, there are 500+ people left injured from the shooter’s attack. United Blood Services in Las Vegas, our sister blood center, has already sent over 200 blood products to the University Medical Center and other hospital partners in the LV area treating victims of the attack.
UBS in Fargo is preparing to assist with replenishment needs called upon by our sister blood centers. Our division of Blood Systems, Inc. has already sent 50+ blood products to Las Vegas in response. Blood types O- and O+ are especially needed at this time.
We are reminding blood donors that it is the blood on the shelf that saves lives when tragedy strikes. It takes 48-72 hours to process, test, prepare and ship blood once it is donated. Please help us replenish blood shelves by donating this week.
