Safe Practices for Winter

With the winter season already here, we want to ensure all of our employees are safe and engage in safe practices. Slips, trips and falls continue to be the most frequent cause of employee injuries at MnSCU. Please be extra careful during the winter season. The Department of Administration has posters available for Slip, Trip and Fall prevention.

Recommendations for employees:

  1. Wear proper footwear: Dress shoes, both men’s and women’s, are slippery!  Wear boots on the way and bring your work shoes.
  2. Pay Attention PLEASE:  When stepping out of your car and when walking in parking lots and buildings.
  3. Take Your Time!  If approaching an icy area, take small steps and proceed with caution.
  4. Keep your hands free: Do not put them in your pockets when walking.  Utilize handrails as you enter and leave the facility.
  5. Limit Carried Items:  It can impair your ability to see potential hazards and can impact your ability to stabilize yourself.

If someone does get injured please contact the Office of Human Resources immediately following an injury (218.477.2157) and visit the Workers’ Compensation webpage for more information.
