One factor that greatly influences educational success is student compliance.”
Bukhari’s research is entitled, “Assisting Refugees with Resettling in a New Community”.
She shared the following within her application:
“Each year, families from different countries immigrate and seek refuge in the United States. The Fargo/ Moorhead area is becoming more diverse with individuals and families from countries such as Somalia, Iraq, Nepal, Bosnia and a few other countries. Refugees face challenges that are far more significant than adjusting to a new lifestyle, new way of dressing or a new climate. Though these are certainly challenges that are faced, one must consider the significant challenges that are typically faced by refugees such as living with trauma experienced in their native countries and many other challenges and barriers. Traumatic experiences may be related to war, political oppression or religious persecution. As providers, regardless of the setting, it is important to learn about the different populations that are resettling in the Fargo/Moorhead area as well as ways to improve services for them. This manual will discuss the three smallest, yet growing populations that are seeking refuge in Fargo/Moorhead area. These populations are Bhutan, The Democratic Republic of Congo and Syria. This manual will provide a background of the political conditions in these countries as well as information about the culture.”
