Sexual Violence Task Force Named

All members of the President’s Task Force on Sexual Violence Prevention have been named and the group is beginning its work.

The Task Force will make recommendations to President Blackhurst about how to create a campus culture in which sexual violence—including date and acquaintance rape, sexual harassment, stalking, and other forms of sexual assault—is not tolerated. Recommendations will encompass (but not be limited to) campus policy enforcement, prevention efforts, educational programming, advocacy and support for survivors, safety and security measures, awareness, and intervention. Related issues, such as the role of binge drinking, will also be considered and addressed.  Special consideration will be given to bystander training and the creation of a consent culture on campus. Recommendations will be delivered to the president by March 1, 2015.

Members of the task force are: Coordinator of Sexual Assault Services Lynn Peterson (chair); Case Manager/Ombudsman Nicole Domine; Senior Women’s Athletics Administrator Gloria Riopelle; Athletic Training staff member Andy Scott; faculty members Deb White, Gary Edvenson and Marilyn Labrensz; Coordinator of the Women’s Center and Title IX Coordinator Ashley Atteberry; Student Affairs/Enrollment Management staff members Heather Phillips and Kari Peterson; Academic Affairs administrator Ok-Hee Lee; Public Safety officer Jessica Jorgensen; students Chandler Esslinger, Angelique King and Sean Duckworth; and community member Chris Johnson, Rape and Abuse Crisis Center.  The Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, Kandace Creel Falcon, will serve in an advisory capacity.
