Posted on February 16, 2017

President Anne’s donation keeps on giving

President Anne’s workday usually begins from home before 6 a.m. and often ends well into the evening. Her days include non-stop meetings on and off campus; multiple travel trips in and out of state; and frequent evening and weekend school-sponsored events and activities. She gets a lot of use out of her parking spot next to Owens Hall.

So it was a generous offer last spring when she donated that parking spot to the annual Spring Scholarship Gala to raise money for student scholarships. Read the rest of this entry →

Dragons in the News

Posted on January 04, 2017

The Benefits of Gender Balance in a System’s Presidential Offices, The Chronicle of Higher Education: “In the past year, national discussions about glass ceilings in politics and in the board room, and sexist news coverage of the Olympics, have brought the subject of gender equity to the forefront of the American consciousness in compelling ways. Higher-education institutions are no strangers to the issue, as they struggle to meet their own aggressive gender-equity goals.”

F-M college campus retention efforts aim to help students succeed, Inforum: “MSUM has seen its retention increase by 3 percent per year for the past three years. The retention rate is now 76 percent. ‘We would like to see that get up to 80 percent,’ said Brenda Amenson-Hill, MSUM’s vice president of enrollment management and student affairs.”

‘You look like a bug and you’re ready to roll’: Winter biking with Sara Watson-Curry, Inforum: “Sara Watson-Curry has been a utilitarian cyclist since her parents dropped her off at Minnesota State University Moorhead in 2001 with her mother’s tank-sized bike. It was another eight years before she ventured to pedal when the snowplows are in full force and most folks are busy scraping ice off their vehicles.”

Dragons women ranked in Division II top 25 for first time since 2009, Inforum: “Minnesota State Moorhead senior Natalie Van Wyhe said it’s ‘cool’ the Dragons are nationally ranked, but the team would rather keep a low profile. ‘We liked not being ranked because we feel like the underdog,’ Van Wyhe said. ‘At the end of the day, it doesn’t mean anything until you actually prove it.'”

MSUM Women Win 11th Straight, Men Back in Win Column, KVRR: “A balanced offensive attack helped the Minnesota State University Moorhead women’s basketball team win its 11th straight game on Saturday as the Dragons topped Concordia-St. Paul, 76-63 at Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, Minn.”

Dragon men cruise past Concordia-St.Paul, WDAY: “John Doss led MSUM with 19 points as the Dragons bounced back from their loss against Mankato. MSU Moorhead cruised past Concordia St. Paul 74-60.”

Dragons End 2016 on the Right Foot, Defeat Concordia-St. Paul 74-60, Valley News Live: “Minnesota State University Moorhead headed into the new year on a high note, winnings its final game of 2016 by defeating Concordia-St. Paul by a final score of 74-60.”

Dragons women extend winning streak to 10 games, Inforum: “A nearly two-week break between games didn’t slow down the surging Minnesota State Moorhead women’s basketball team.”

Dragon women’s basketball team wins tenth game in a row, men fall to Mankato, WDAZ: “The MSUM men’s basketball team was back from their holiday break on Friday, with a game against Minnesota State Mankato.”

MSUM women shoot past Concordia-St. Paul, WDAZ: “The MSUM women’s basketball team remained hot to extend its winning streak to 11 games. The Dragons shot 61 percent from beyond the arc to beat Concordia-St.Paul 76-63.”

Doss leads Dragons men to conference win, Inforum: “Heading into the New Year, the Minnesota State Moorhead men’s basketball team is still trying to hone an identity. The Dragons took another step in that direction Saturday, Dec. 31, at Alex Nemzek Fieldhouse.”

Ham scores career high to help Dragons women extend winning streak, Inforum: “Ham made the most of her court time, scoring a career-high 17 points. Her effort helped the surging Dragons earn a 76-63 victory against Concordia-St. Paul in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women’s basketball before 565 fans.”
