But in 1997, while playing the mythical hero in the syndicated TV series “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys,” Kevin Sorbo was knocked flat by what turned out to be three strokes. The former Minnesota State University Moorhead student writes about the experience, and his rebound, in the memoir “True Strength.”
Q: Tell us what happened.
A: My shoulder had been bugging me. I had a lump that turned out to be an aneurysm, and it ruptured and sent blood clots down my arm. I was in danger of losing my arm.
You went back to work quickly. You’d had four months of rehab, but you weren’t 100 percent?
No, more like 5 percent. I could only work an hour a day. For the last two seasons, they brought in a lot of guest actors who worked around me.
Will you ever get tired of being referred to as Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo?
Never. I’ve done a lot of work since then, and I’ll do even more, but part of me will always be Hercules.
