Cultural Diversity Resources names winners of its 2011 champions for diversity awards

Cultural Diversity Resources, a nonprofit that addresses the challenges and opportunities of growing cultural and ethnic diversity, has selected three winners from seven nominations for its 2011 champions for diversity awards. They are:

  • MSUM’s Japan Club was chosen the winner of the community award. The club is active in helping those who are interested in learning Japanese and has organized many activities, dances and presentations.
  • Rotary Club’s English project for Fargo Public Schools was chosen the winner of the education award. Volunteers from Rotary Club, as well as teachers and college students, helped refugee parents with limited English proficiency improve their language skills.
  • Hornbacher’s Foods was chosen the winner in business. Brett Gilbertson, assistant store director, promotes diversity through recruiting and hiring employees and customers from diverse backgrounds. Where needed, he used interpreters and on-the-job training.
