Wally Sizer recognized for service at math association meeting

Wally Sizer, Mathematics, was awarded the 2011 North Central Section of the Mathematical Association of America Certificate for Meritorious Service at the April 16 NCS/MAA meeting at Carleton College.

Sizer came to MSU Moorhead in 1980, after three years at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He’s taught here for 31 years, with the following leaves of absence: 1986-1987 he was at MARA Community College at Kuantan, Malaysia; 1991-1992 he was a Fulbright Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana; and 1997-1998 he was at the University of Rhode Island.

Sizer has been a member of the MAA since 1976, and has served the MAA and the North Central Section in many capacities. He was the secretary of the North Central Section from 2002 to 2006. He has given eighteen presentations at NCS meetings, including one of the Friday evening invited addresses. He has also given an invited address at the meeting of the Allegheny Mountain Section. He has served on the local arrangements committee twice when Minnesota State University Moorhead hosted a section meeting, and he is again on this committee for the coming fall section meeting to be held there. Wally has published more than a dozen papers, in a variety of journals, including some of the MAA journals.
