MSUM art exhibit features Garrett Hansen

A Minnesota State University Moorhead art exhibit featuring the works of Garrett Hansen In China will show through Feb. 10 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts gallery.

An artist’s reception will be held Thursday, Jan. 28 from 4 to 6 p.m. in the gallery foyer. He will present a lecture from  6 to 7 p.m. in the Center for Business room 101. Both events are free and open to the public.

Gallery hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturdays and Sundays noon to 4 p.m.; or by special arrangement by contacting gudmunja@mnstate.edu

Hansen lived for one year in Dalian, China, a city of six million people in the Manchurian region of China. Throughout his time there, he was struck by the city’s density along with a feeling of intense isolation. He states that “I did not set out to make images that referenced either isolation or loneliness; I simply want to explore the idea of the individual in the context of the world’s most populous nation. These images…are simply a reflection of what it might mean to be an urban citizen in the New China.”
