Kyja K-Nelson screens experimental video in North Portland Unknown Film Festival

Kyja K-Nelson, faculty of the School of Media Arts & Design, will be screening her new experimental video, Hús, in the North Portland Unknown Film Festival on Saturday, October 14. Shot in Iceland and North Dakota, Hús is a rhythmic meditation on emigration, immigration, house and home. The piece was made in collaboration with Icelandic noise artist AMFJ, who produced an original sound score for the video.  Read the rest of this entry →

Film and animation students, alumni and faculty exhibit work in Minne Mini Film Festival

Film and Animation students, alumni and faculty exhibit work in the Minne Mini Film Festival. The sold-out event will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Bryant-Lake Bowl & Theatre in uptown Minneapolis.

Short films made by MSUM Film Production alumni include Hipster Zombies created by Matt Eckholm, Welcome to the Future made by Paul Eckhardt, and World’s Best Axe Murderer by Eric W. Carlson.  Read the rest of this entry →

Film Production and Animation students and alumni show work, win awards

Professors Anthony Adah, Don Clark, and Kyja K-Nelson of the School of Media Arts and Design, along with three vans full of students, represented MSUM at the 11th annual South Dakota Film Festival. Students participated in screenings, networking events, and Q/A sessions with filmmakers from around the world. Kyja K-Nelson Named Television Academy Foundation Faculty Fellow

The Television Academy Foundation named Kyja K-Nelson, School of Media Arts & Design, one of the 2016 Faculty Fellows. South Dakota Film Festival Honors MSUM Film and Animation

The School of Media Arts & Design was well represented at the 10th annual South Dakota Film Festival. Dr. Tony Adah, Kyja K-Nelson and 18 film and animation students traveled to Aberdeen, S.D., Sept. 23-25 to exhibit their film, animation and video installation. Look Out Point Screened in Rome

Look Out Point, an experimental film by Kyja K-Nelson (School of Media Arts & Design), recently screened as part of two curated programs in Rome, Italy. K-Nelson’s film is currently screening at the Experimental Art, Architecture and Design Festival at the BAU International Academy of Rome. In addition, K-Nelson’s film was part of an exhibition at the Worldhotel Ripa Roma called Oxygen, a contemporary video art and performing art festival, curated to explore the re-appropriation of the natural world to give new interpretations to psychical and physical places that transform our lives.  Read the rest of this entry →

Kyja K-Nelson’s films screened at Snowdance Film Festival

Two films by Kyja K-Nelson, Cinema Arts & Digital Technologies, screened recently at the Snowdance Film Festival in Washington. K-Nelson’s films, “Look Out Point” and “Sveit,” opened the festival on February 17. The festival’s theme was “Finding Home.”

“Look Out Point” was also screened at the Milk Bar in the Sunshine Biscuit Factory in Oakland, Calif., in November. The evening included K-Nelson’s multi-channel work, as well as music, dance and installation.

Two new shorts by Kyja K-Nelson, Cinema Arts & Digital Technologies, screened at Woodland Pattern in Milwaukee, Wis, Oct. 25. K-Nelson’s “The Fiscal Cliff” and “Look Out Point” were part of an exhibition curated by Cecelia Condit.
