English Professor Liz Kisacky Severn’s presentation, titled “Writing To and Through The Wound: Finding the Authentic Voice,” focuses on the negative effect tragedy and grief can have on a writer’s voice.
Yahya Frederickson, English, won Finishing Line Press’s Open Chapbook Competition. His manuscript, “The Birds of Al-Merjeh Square: Poems from Syria” was selected by poet Christopher Bursk as the winner. In addition to publication, Frederickson received a $1,000 cash award. finishinglinepress.com
The winner of the Idaho Prize for Poetry 2013—selected by final judge, Sam Hamill—is THE GOLD SHOP OF BA-‘ALI by Yahya Frederickson, professor of English at MSU Moorhead.
