On Thursday, April 3, SCEC (Student Council for Exceptional Children) is having a free movie showing of “Front of the Class.” The movie will be in Langseth 104 (Science Lab Auditorium) at 7 p.m. All are welcome to come enjoy the movie!
Dr. Lynn Mahlum, Director of Teacher Education and Field Experiences, presented at AACTE in Indianapolis on March 2. As a member of Network for Excellence in Teaching (NExT), Mahlum collaborated with colleagues from Winona State, Bethel, Roosevelt Education Center, and FHI 360 to present ‘New Clinical Experiences: Earlier, Longer, More Frequent, and Higher Quality.’
Dr. Sue Severson and Dr. Ximena Suarez-Sousa from the School of Teaching and Learning attended the Annual Meeting and Conference of the American Association of College for Teacher Education (AACTE) in Indianapolis, March 1-3. They focused their attendance on meetings and presentations pertaining to teacher education accreditation including sessions that addressed data gathering and analysis, program evaluation, and new CAEP standards.
Dr. David Tack, School of Teaching and Learning, led an hour-long professional development session with the teachers in the Early Education Center. Together they focused on implementing strategies to enhance the co-teaching models that are utilized within the center, as well as discussed instructional strategies that would best facilitate effective learning in these models.
Springing from work done in Steve Grineski’s Ed. 310 class, art education major Marissa Van Vleet continued her social justice work by volunteering at Churches United for the Homeless on Saturday mornings running an art club for children. Van Vleet’s advisor Brad Bachmeier hopes to turn this into a sustainable program in the future. Read more in The Forum article.
