A Silent Cry showing April 28

A Silent Cry – A Documentary, will be showing Wednesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. in King Hall Auditorium. This documentary film exposes the hidden genocide in the horn of Africa. Produced by a team of young British students, in partnership with African Rights Monitor, is based on stories depicting the shattered lives of Somali refugees from the Ogaden region of Ethiopia. Maraca2 Percussion Duo to perform with MSUM Percussion Ensemble Tuesday

The British percussion duo Maraca2 will present a 7:30 p.m. concert Tuesday, April 27 in the Gaede Theatre to culminate a four-day residency at MSUM. They will be joined by members of the MSUM Percussion Ensemble for two selections. The Duo has invited the Percussion Ensemble to then travel with them to Minneapolis Thursday morning to perform alongside them at the prestigious “International Marimba Festival.” The Festival will feature marimbists from across the world for three days of performances with ensembles, including the Minnesota Orchestra and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.

Tim Miller, an internationally acclaimed performance artist, will deliver a “performance & lecture & rant” on identity, the culture wars and queer strategies for the future at 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 28 in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Gaede Stage. MSUM Jazz Ensemble, Tri-College Combos win awards at the Eau Claire Jazz Festival

MSUM Jazz groups had a successful trip to the 2010 Eau Jazz Festival this past weekend taking four out of seven awards possible. MSUM Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Allen Carter, received third place; Tri-College Combo II, under the direction of Simon Rowe, received second place; Tri-College Combo I, under the direction of Nick Fryer, received first place and an award for “Best Soloist” going to Chris Schuster (NDSU). Don’t miss the now award-winning MSUM Jazz Ensemble this Thursday, April 22 with Jazz Trumpeter Marvin Stamm at 7:30 p.m. in the Hansen Theatre.
