Inspired by Nature, a 2010 television documentary produced in the broadcast documentary class at MSUM and broadcast on Prairie Public Television, was selected as the best student television documentary by the Broadcast Education Association in the national competition.
In the student television newscast category, MSUM’s Campus News program, broadcast on Prairie Public Television, won third place nationally.
Nathan Matson, the student producer for both programs, will accept the awards at a Best of Festival high definition screening and awards ceremony at the Broadcast Education Association’s national convention in Las Vegas on April 11.
The BEA Festival of Media Arts is an international refereed exhibition of faculty creative activities and a national showcase for student work. The winners for 2011 were selected from a pool of 913 entries from 142 colleges and universities.
Inspired by Nature features world renowned nature photographer, Jim Brandenburg, who captures the essence of life in the wild through his impassioned storytelling; Charles Beck, a sensitive and insightful artist who produces woodcut prints of landscapes in Western Minnesota; and North Dakota’s poet laureate, Larry Woiwode, who is inspired by nature to write about the intricacies of life on the prairie. The program documents these creators of words and images, and also others who have been inspired to be better and do better.
*Prof. Grindeland teaches the documentary production class. Students from previous years have also produced award-winning work for regional Emmy awards. Grindeland is one of MSU Moorhead’s nine Carnegie Professors of the Year.
Prof. Grindeland and the Inspired by Nature team
