Belated welcome, Derek Borgerding, network administrator & cybersecurity analyst
Derek Borgerding joined the Information Technology team back in July as a network Administrator and cybersecurity analyst. Derek’s role involves maintaining internet networking between all of the buildings on campus, advising and analyzing security threats that may occur, and assisting in the wider scope of IT.
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: When I came in for my interview, they took me to meet everyone on the team. The campus as a whole has a big, welcoming community feeling.
Q: How do you like to start your work day?
A: With a big cup of coffee and then sometimes a chaser of Monster.
Q: What past experiences have you had to prepare you for this role?
A: I had previously worked about 12 years in a big enterprise network. I feel that a bigger and wider level of experience helped to prepare me to come to a college campus.
Q: Is there one thing you are learning now in your role that is new to you?
A: I am currently learning servers.
