Welcome, Courtney Bannister, speech language pathologist and SLHS clinical supervisor
Courtney Banister came to MSUM in early August to be a speech language pathologist and clinical supervisor in the Speech Language Hearing Science Department. She supervises graduate students with their clinical assignments and provides speech services in the West Fargo school district.
Q: What drew you to MSUM? What was your selling point to come here?
A: I graduated from MSUM and realized I wanted to get into a supervision role or helping students find their place in the speech language world. I want to help the next generation of speech pathologists find their place.
Q: Since you’re a Dragon, what’s something that has surprised you about MSUM now that you’re faculty instead of a student?
A: As a student, you know the faculty and working to support students – everybody wants to see everybody grow. Now I get to see the community built around providing the best to our graduate students.

Q: What keeps you energized throughout your work day?
A: Knowing that not every day is going to be the same is nice. Student clinicians bring energy into the day which refuels me.
Q: What are you working on right now?
A: We’d like to provide some contract services with local schools. I’m forming a connection with them, building up partnerships.
Q: What are you reading right now?
A: ACOTAR series, because a new one comes out in October.
Q: What apps do you use most?
A: Facebook, which ages me. I also coach cross-country and track, so I use the app athletic.net. And I’ve been using Libby.
Q: What is the most exciting thing you’ve ever done?
A: I lived in England for four months, not long after I graduated high school.
