Trumpeter Marvin Stamm at MSUM

World-renown jazz musician to perform and teach

Trumpeter Marvin Stamm performs with the MSUM jazz ensemble Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Hansen Theatre in the Roland Dille Center for the Performing Arts on the MSUM campus. A second appearance is set for Friday, April 23, at 8 p.m. at downtown Fargo’s Studio 222, where he’ll join the Simon Rowe Trio. Stamm will also present two educational events while on campus, open to music students and educators from any school in the area.

Stamm is a leading figure in the jazz world, having recorded and performed with artists including Quincy Jones, Michel Legrand, Bill Evans, Thad Jones, Benny Goodman, Patrick Williams, Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Lena Horn, Paul Simon and Aretha Franklin. Stamm is also an active touring artist, performing as a soloist with his jazz quartet and in duo with pianist Bill Mays. He performs with symphony orchestras around the country and maintains ties with the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band as well as The Inventions Trio. He has recorded more than 50 albums as a soloist or sideman on his own label and others. A dedicated teacher, Stamm works with educators, music students, performers and young musicians, traveling to universities and high schools all over the globe.

The educational events include a lecture on personal career management on Thursday, April 22, at 3 p.m. On Friday, April 23, Stamm presents a 1:30 p.m. master class on trumpet playing and improvisation. Both events take place in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts, and are free and open to the public.

For tickets to the April 22 concert, call the MSUM Box Office at (218) 477-2271 Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are also available at the door 30 minutes before curtain. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students with ID. Area schools receive a substantial discount if they bring 15 students to the April 22 concert. The April 23 performance at Club 222 is also open to the public. Ticket prices are the same.
