MSUM choir to premiere new work by Minnesota composer

A concert featuring the world premiere of The Dragon and the Undying, a work by Minnesota composer Linda Kachelmeier, is set for Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

The piece was commissioned by and for the Draco Voces Men’s Choir at MSUM in honor of the 125th anniversary of the founding of MSUM. Kachelmeier sings with St. Paul’s renowned The Rose Ensemble. The composition sets a sonnet by Siegfried Sassoon, a British poet and World War I soldier.

The concert will include the Festival Women’s Choir and Concert Choir performing works by British composer Benjamin Britten, whose centennial birthday is celebrated this year. Britten selections include excerpts from Friday Afternoons; the choral dances from Gloriana; A Ceremony of Carols; and Festival Te Deum, featuring guest organist Andrew Steinberg.

The concert is free and open to public. For more information, contact Daniel Mahraun at 218.477.2966 or daniel.mahraun@mnstate.edu
