MSU Moorhead hosting annual Tri-College Math Contest

MSUM is hosting the 45th   annual Tri-College Math Contest for 27 schools and 92 teams on Tuesday, March 11. The contest, hosted alternately between MSU Moorhead, Concordia College and North Dakota State University, tests the mathematical competency of middle school and high school students.

More than 700 students from schools across Minnesota and North Dakota are scheduled to take part. Students will compete individually and with teams in small school and large school divisions. There are three classifications: middle school for grades 6-8, lower high school for grades 9 and 10, and senior high school for grades 11 and 12.

“For 40+ years, the Tri-College Math Contest has been a celebration of mathematical talent, giving students an opportunity to showcase their analytical skills and passion for mathematics,” said MSUM mathematics Professor Tim Harms and Tri-College Math Contest Coordinator. “Our goal is to inspire students to explore mathematical problem-solving and encourage future mathematicians.”

The top three teams and top five individuals in each level and division will receive awards recognizing their achievement. An awards ceremony in the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Hansen Theatre will follow the exams at each level.

The Concordia College Mathematics Department has written the questions for this year.
