April 26 AAPI Heritage Month Film Screening: The Farewell

The Farewell Film Screening

Date: April 26th

Time: 6:30

Location: Library Auditorium (Room 103)

As part of the celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, join us for a screening of The Farewell (2019).

In this funny, uplifting tale based on an actual lie, Chinese-born, U.S.-raised Billi reluctantly returns to Changchun to find that, although the whole family knows their beloved matriarch, Nai-Nai, has been given mere weeks to live, everyone has decided not to tell Nai Nai herself. To assure her happiness, they gather under the joyful guise of an expedited wedding, uniting family members scattered among new homes abroad. As Billi navigates a minefield of family expectations and proprieties, she finds there’s a lot to celebrate: a chance to rediscover the country she left as a child, her grandmother’s wondrous spirit, and the ties that keep on binding even when so much goes unspoken.
All are welcome to attend this free film screening at MSUM’s Library Auditorium, LI 103. Popcorn will be served. Then we encourage you to stay for a discussion after the film.
The room is accessible and the film will be shown with closed captions. MSUM is committed to creating an inclusive and accessible event. If you need a reasonable accommodation to attend this event, please contact Chuck Eade at Charles.Eade@mnstate.edu. You will be contacted individually to discuss your request.
