MSUM Department of Leadership & Learning publishes open access journal featuring educational research

Minnesota State University Moorhead’s Department of Leadership & Learning has published The Interactive Journal of Global Leadership and Learning (IJGLL), a peer-reviewed open-access journal featuring educational research from the P-12 to postsecondary level.

The inaugural issue was released this month and features four articles from recent MSUM doctor of education graduates—Drs. Andrew Burklund, Kyja Kristjansson-Nelson, Anne Marie Leland, and Kathrina O’Connell. Also included is an article by MSUM Professor Michael Coquyt.

Topics included in this current issue include equitable learning for students in a rural, Title I school district; an analysis of synchronous online classroom learning satisfaction; theory in media arts education research; a case study of Somali parent-school engagement in a rural school district; and effects of service-learning on the moral development of college students.

“The first issue was reserved for recent doctoral graduates in celebration of students’ successful graduation from the first stand-alone doctorate at MSUM,” said Boyd Bradbury, IJGLL editor-in-chief and professor in the Department of Leadership & Learning. “Future issues will feature authors from anywhere in the world since the IJGLL is an open-access journal.”

The IJGLL will publish articles relevant to social scientists, educational practitioners, and graduate students to share best practices to improve P-12 and higher education educational outcomes. Topics may range from governance and online education to equity and access to leadership and crisis.

“So far, the IJGLL has published five articles and has generated a geographically diverse readership that spans 18 states and four continents,” said Ximena Suarez-Sousa, IJGLL managing editor and a professor in the Department of Leadership & Learning: “Our aim is that future issues of the IJGLL will continue to fulfill the journal’s vision of serving as a global platform that publishes original work from national as well as international authors.”

To date, more than 160 papers have been downloaded by readers from five continents.

The journal will publish in the spring and fall and accepts manuscript submissions of original research from practitioners, faculty, and graduate students. The call for fall 2020 manuscripts is currently open and will receive submissions until the end of August.
