Welcome to the #Dragon Family: Stephen Beckermann
Meet MSUM’s new Informational Technology Specialist, Stephen Beckermann. He is looking forward to helping faculty develop their courses to support their students better!
Start date: Nov. 18, 2019
Q: What drew you to MSUM?
A: I’m an MSUM alum! I graduated with degrees in music industry and elementary education. I always liked the environment of MSUM. I have a fondness for the institution and I’m happy to be back.
Q: What is one thing that surprised you about MSUM?
A: Coming from a larger institution then back to MSUM, it feels much smaller now than when I was a student. It’s a much tighter community having had other experiences and then coming back; it’s quite comfortable.
Q: What unique experience or skills do you bring to MSUM?
A: I have a strong background in education and the arts. A combination of an interest in and commitment to education but also creative energy plays into that. I received my master’s degree in instructional design, so I’ve spent a lot of time with multimedia technologies, which are a big component in today’s education.
Q: If you could trade places with anyone for a day who would it be and why?
A: I would trade places with Elvis Costello because I admire everything he’s done. I’d like to see how his creative mind works.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? A: I would like to go to India. I worked with a lot of students and faculty from India in past jobs and I’ve become curious and intrigued about it. The hard part would be deciding where in India I would go to because I’ve learned that it’s quite a varied culture.
We’re happy to welcome you back to the the #DragonFamily, Stephen.
