Getting Nominated: How to Choose

With homecoming week approaching quickly, it’s time to start thinking about which students demonstrate MSUM’s core values and deserve the title of Homecoming Royalty (why Royalty and not King or Queen? Check out our blog from last year!). Nominations for Homecoming Court just opened, so it’s time start looking at the students around you that might be a good nomination option.

Not sure what to look for? Clark Fleury from the Dragon Entertainment Group told us about what you can expect when sending off that nomination.

First off, how do you nominate someone for Homecoming Court?

All you have to do is go on the homecoming website, which you can find by searching on Google or MSUM’s website, and fill out the nomination form. The Dragon Entertainment Group also has the form linked on their social media.

What qualities make for good Homecoming Royalty?

First off, all nominees must be juniors or seniors, as well as involved on campus with one organization (because that organization will nominate them). Those are requirements. Besides those, they have to have passion for what they do, have dragon pride, and be enthusiastic. They also have to incorporate the 3 core values of MSUM (grit, humility, heart) in their daily life, work, and school.

What do you recommend to someone who wants to be nominated?

Get involved. Find something you’re passionate about and join an organization that aligns with those goals.

If someone is nominated, what’s next?

When you get nominated, we set up interviews and 10 people are chosen to be part of Court. The nominees are announced the Monday of Homecoming at the Dragons Got Talent event.

After someone has been elected to Homecoming Court, the nominees are posted and people can vote for them. There is no advertising allowed besides word of mouth. The Court attends Homecoming events where they get a chance to interact with people.

Can you tell us what NOT to do when nominating someone?

Being nominated is an honor, so don’t just nominate someone because they’re your friend. Nominate them because you think they deserve it.

Have someone in mind? Go to the Homecoming website and fill out the form to make sure the person you think deserves it gets their chance.
