University-wide lecture: Monday, Sept. 23 | 2:30 p.m. | CMU 205

Three lecturers from Belarusian National Technical University will be on campus Sept. 19-27. Various lectures and activities are planned. You are invited to attend the university-wide lecture that is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m. in CMU 205. Anna Golikova, Hanna Shaparenka and Aliaksei Dadykin will share insight and expertise with our campus community regarding the educational system of Belarus, which was part of the former Soviet Union. The lecturers will compare and contrast the differences between the American and Belarusian educational systems, with special emphasis placed on the importance of second language acquisition. Both American and Belarusian societies have a history of monolingual existence, but changing demographics and increased globalization are serving as change agents in both countries. In addition, the lecturers will share progress on joint research projects between their university and MSUM over the last two years. A document containing biographical sketches of the three lecturers is attached.
