Mariposa Mosaic Unveiling

Wednesday, March 20 | 11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. | Intercultural Center (CMU 121)

Come see the beautiful collaborative mosaic triptych created by MSUM students, faculty and staff, and community artist Magda Seitz to commemorate a service-learning study abroad project to the Mariposa Center for girls and women in the Dominican Republic. The study abroad was led by Dr. Mary Dosch (Psychology) and Dr. David Paul (Counseling) in June 2016.

The mosaic’s title — “You are the Most Powerful Force for Change in the World” — is the motto for the Mariposa (butterfly) Center established in 2009 in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. The Mariposa Center is a facility where underserved girls come to engage in sports, receive academic tutoring, have access to libraries and computers, receive job and life skills training and health and wellness care. For the Mariposas, having their own safe space allows them to develop healthy relationships with mentors and other girls in the community, and feel empowered to make a difference in their lives, their communities and the world.

The triptych will be mounted and unveiled just outside the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (CMU 120) across from the Intercultural Center.

Free and open to all. Light refreshments served.
