Follow-up workshop on Microaggressions

Thursday, Nov. 16 | 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Faculty Development Center (LI 124)

Psychologist Derald Wing Sue defines microaggressions as “brief, everyday exchanges that send denigrating messages to certain individuals because of their group membership.”

This session will provide a brief overview of what microaggressions are, some specific examples, and strategies for how to address them as they happen in the classroom or around our campus. Our goal is for this session to be interactive and discussion based.

Dr. Donna Brown has been MSUM’s Chief Diversity Officer for 8 years. She has over 25 years’ experience recruiting and retaining students of color and other underrepresented groups in college. She is also a former faculty member in the department of counseling and student affairs.

Please join us in the Faculty Development Center at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 to continue our conversation about microaggressions and how we can address them effectively as a campus community.
