Dr. Adam Goyt to present this week’s Undergraduate Math Seminar

Wednesday, Feb. 1 | 4-4:50 p.m. | Bridges 268

Featuring Adam Goyt | Introduction to Fourier Series

A wise frog once said, “Why are there so many songs about rainbows? And what’s on the other side?” We all know that rainbows are just visible refractions of white light into its component wave lengths. This process of breaking a signal into its component wavelengths has far reaching application. These applications all depend on a mathematical process called Fourier Transforms, which are related to Fourier series.

In this talk we will discuss the basics of Fourier Series, some of the history of this area of mathematics and some applications of Fourier Series including MRI technology and signal sampling.
