Flores and Hansen published in economic studies journal

Oscar Flores and T.J. Hansen, Economics, had the paper “The Impact of Local Economic Conditions on the Retention of College Freshman at Regional, Public Universities in the United States” published in the December issue of Regional, Sectoral, and Economic Studies. Using six years of data for 180 public universities with a master Carnegie classification, Flores and Hansen, find support for the hypothesis that controlling for a number of factors, institutions located in cities with strong economies have lower retention rates. Institutions could use the model developed in the paper to set realistic retention goals.
