Public relations students succeed at national competition

Three teams of MSUM students involved in the Public Relations Student Society of America’s national Batemen Case Study competition placed in the final finish, receiving honorable mentions.

Most schools enter one or two teams, but MSUM entered four, all under the direction of Professor Liz Conmy, who uses the Bateman Case Study campaign as a capstone project.

The national honorable mentions are especially noteworthy because sixty teams from schools of all sizes directly competed with each other. MSUM’s teams were “Family Ties” — Rebekah Ronningen, Kelly Nerby-Mead, Candace Rastedt, Brandon Horpedahl and Kelly Price; “Team Dragonflies” —  Kjersti Maday, Kaitlyn Hildahl, Brittany Dunnigan, Steph Forbord and Elise Runberg; and “Team Insight Communications” —  Alejandra Saavedra, Brian Nelson, Corin Puhalla and Sydney Hoff.

The national competition involves research, planning, and implementing a public relations campaign for a national client. This year the client was HomeMatters, a nonprofit launched in 2013 by a group of visionary housing professionals and leaders. Each MSUM team created a unique approach to creating visibility for the organization.
